Abstract

Solid Waste Management is now recognized as one of the challenges which the landfill method of waste disposal is no longer appropriate, increased of waste generation, inadequately managed and uncontrolled dumpsites of solid waste disposal, all in all, the problems of poor waste management are worsening in Malaysia as the nation’s biggest issue to date. Around the world, the Solid Waste Management shows the environmental consciousness has been rising among the societies in view of environmental awareness and advocacy on environmental issues and concerns among the public. This study aimed to examine factors influencing the recycling intention behaviour in Nilai. The influencing factors that are implemented in this research are availability, accessibility, affordability, acceptability and awareness. The design of this study is quantitative research whereby a set of hypotheses are devised and data is collected from a sample using self-administrated questionnaire to support or refute the hypotheses. The self-administered questionnaire will be used as the instrument in obtaining feedback from the human participants. The total sample size required is 150 whereby the unit of analysis is residents of Nilai over the age of 18. Several SPSS test has been used to analyse the results. The results obtained show the current waste management in Malaysia and key factor influence recycling intention behaviour. Availability, affordability and awareness have significant impact on influence recycling
intention behaviour. The study summarized the different recycling strategy, awareness campaign and education system to improve the recycling rate in Nilai.
