BOARD CHARACTERISTICS AND BANK PERFORMANCE IN CHINA BANKING INDUSTRY

Abstract

This project aims at finding out the relationship between the board characteristic and the bank performance during the 2014 to 2017 four years in China.

During the recent years, the global economy developed very fast and there is no doubt that China made great contribution to this development. To China the banking sector plays a very important part in developing its economy. So there should be much attention paid to banks’ performance. The impact of board characteristic on the bank’s performance cannot be ignored.

In this study, the quantitative method is used. The used data are collected by some official website and the bank’s annual report. In the analyzing of the data, the descriptive analysis and the multiple linear regression analysis are used. Based on the result of the analysis, we find that the board size, the board meeting times per year and percentage of female in the board have significant
influence on the bank performance.

At last of the paper, the recommendations are given. The bank should pay more attention to its board characteristics in order to make itself competitive in the industry.
