This study focuses on work engagement (WE) as mediator that contribute to individual work performance (IWP) in organization. There are three independent variables include, positive emotion, work engagement and perceived organizational support is discussed. The incorporation of perceived organization supports as moderator would extend the understanding of the relationship between positive emotion and work engagement in this study. There are 169 employees from banking industry around Klang Valley and peninsular Malaysia responding to the self-administered questionnaires.
In this study, the self-determinationtheory was used to examine the relationships between the positive emotion, work engagement and individual workperformanceandthe social exchange theory was used to examine the influence of the perceived organizational support on the banking employees’ work engagement. Based on Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squared (SEM-PLS), findings from this study indicated that positive emotion positively predict the work engagement and the individual work performance, work engagement partially mediated the relationship between positive emotion and individual work performance, perceived organizational support is positively significant to work engagement and perceived organization support not significantly moderate the relationship between positive emotion and work engagement. The implication of this these findings suggests that the organization must understand the predictors of work engagement such as emotion and how work engagement will help the organization to improve employees’ individual work performance.
