The perception of human resources (HR) effectiveness refers to the outcome of a series of HR policies and corresponding management activities. This research focus on the perception of HR 6-Sigma on HR effectiveness in Chinese manufacturing
companies. In the developed countries, many manufacturing companies adopted the HR 6-Sigma theory successfully. However, there are only few researches on the HR effectiveness and the adoption of HR 6-Sigma in emerging market like China, specifically, only one research found thus far, but in a generic manner. With the rapid technological changes and growing globalization, manufacturing organization is moving to “Industry 4.0”, HRM too needs to move to “HR 4.0” through the process of “datafication”, “digitization”, and “digitalization”. It is a great opportunity for developing countries like China to catch up the progress of HRM though the adoption of HR 6-Sigma.
This qualitative research examines how HR 6-sigma affects HR effectiveness in Chinese manufacturing organizations via the employ of multiple case studies for comparison between a global company in China and Chinese manufacturing organizations. This qualitative will introduce HR 6-Sigma through three dimensions include: recruitment management HR 6-Sigma, reward management HR 6-Sigma, and performance management HR 6-Sigma. In addition, there are two Chinese manufacturing companies, and the foreign company “General Electric” (GE) would be a baseline to evaluate HR effectiveness. By the way, this qualitative study would use the statistical tool “Excel” to deal with the qualitative data.
The key findings of the proposed semi-structured interviews illustrated that the adoption of HR 6-Sigma could lead to the HR effectiveness in Chinese manufacturing companies, and the final goal of the implementation of HR 6-Sigma is to establish a
corporate culture for the enterprises. As well as the previous successful experience of “General Electric” can help Chinese manufacturing design HR 6-Sigma project. Therefore, it would be necessary to expand the influence of HR 6-Sigma in Chinese
manufacturing industry, so as to gain the comparative advantage i the future digital world (industry 4.0).
